threatened

This program focusses on the management of Australia’s threatened flora and fauna species. Students will be both enlightened and alarmed by the very long list of threatened species in Australia possibly facing the risk of extinction.

This program provides an amazing opportunity to encounter some of Australia’s most threatened species, in particular, species currently considered threatened in our local area including, the Regent Parrot, Murray-Darling Carpet Python, Western Blue Tongue Lizard and the rarely encountered Hooded Scaly-foot.  We will discuss in detail other species currently threatened in our region and species considered threatened Nationally including but not limited to Growling Grass Frogs, Murray Cod, Mallee Emu-wren, Greater Long-eared Bat and other State threatened species such as Lace Monitor, Bush Stone-curlew and Pink Cockatoo.

The Threatened Species program highlights how the Australian environment has altered since European settlement and how the indigenous people managed the land prior to European Settlement. We focus on the main factors threatening our native species and leading to extinction and discuss in detail opportunities for us in the community to assist with the conservation of our natural environment.
