wonderful-world

Ever wondered what it would be like to be charged by a 220kg silverback mountain gorilla, stare eyeball to eyeball with a polar bear or swim in the icy cold waters of Antarctica? Then this program is for you…….we take you on a breath-taking journey to some of the world’s iconic wildlife destinations – the ‘Big 5’ of Africa, Polar Bears in Canada, Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, Amazon Basin in South America and the southern polar region of Antarctica.

Be mesmerised by the sheer beauty, grace, power and skill of some of the most fascinating and critically threatened species in the world.  Re-live the wonder that Charles Darwin experienced when he first encountered the Galapagos Islands (The enchanted isles) and described the theory of evolution by natural selection. The following topics will be covered and discussed in detail throughout this program with students encouraged to actively participate in open discussion:

  • The geographical location of these countries/continents relative to Australia;
  • The habitat requirements of individual species;
  • Amazing animal facts – morphology, feeding, behaviour, reproductive strategies, and specific adaptations animals have made to survive the temperature extremes and climatic conditions;
  • Food chains and food webs;
  • The theory of evolution by natural selection;
  • The threat status of particular species and what threats are impacting their survival;
  • Measures taken by various Governments and organisations to minimise the threats and protect particular species;
  • The role we as individuals can play to help protect our world’s threatened species.
